On Saturday March 19, 2022 at 12:05 am the Barron County Sheriff’s Department received a 911 call of a snowmobiler that went through the ice on Prairie Lake, near the Wolf’s Den Resort. Deputies from the Barron County Sheriff’s Department along with the Chetek and Cameron Fire Department and Mayo and Chetek Ambulance responded to the scene. Investigation Continues in La Crosse

A death investigation is underway in La Crosse after the discovery of the body of a missing student.   UW-La Crosse psychology student 25-year old Hamud Faal was found in the Mississippi River near the Division Street landing on Thursday.  Faal went missing early on February 20 after leaving a downtown La Crosse bar.  Jason Melby,  La Crosse Police Assistant Chief says the fire department and water rescue team helped find Faal.  Melby didn’t reveal much about the death investigation so

DNA Evidence Helps Solve Case of Baby Thresa

A cold case death investigation is solved and a suspect is in custody.  Yesterday, the Dodge County Sheriff’s office said DNA evidence helped solved the case of the death of Baby Theresa.  She was named for the Town of Theresa where her remains were found by a roadside in April of 2009.   A comparison of Baby Theresa’s DNA with DNA in genealogical studies company Family Tree’s customer database ultimately led to the identity of the child’s mother.   Karin Luttinen was

WI Airport Looks to Land New Tourists

Marathon County approves putting up to 195-thousand dollars toward attracting new flights to the Central Wisconsin Airport in Mosinee The board of supervisors says it wants flights to three destinations, Orlando, Florida, southwest Florida, and Phoenix, Arizona.  The board says those locations are all in the top five of a recent study about where people go on vacation.

WI Lighthouse Added to State Register of Historic Places

A lighthouse on the Door Peninsula is added to the Wisconsin State Register of Historic Places.  The Wisconsin Historical Society says the Kewaunee Pierhead Lighthouse was added to the register of historic places because of its role in maritime transportation and commerce.  The lighthouse was built as a fog signal building in 1909 and converted into a lighthouse in 1931.
