Langlade Co. Deer Farm Depopulated After CWD

The Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection (DATCP) confirms that a Langlade County deer farm that tested positive for chronic wasting disease (CWD) in 2021 has been depopulated. None of the 47 deer that remained at the property tested positive for CWD. The 6-acre farm had been under quarantine since CWD was detected in August 2021, meaning no animals or animal carcasses were permitted off of the property. Death Investigation Underway in Eau Claire

A death investigation is underway in Eau Claire County. The sheriff’s office says they received a call around 11 a.m. yesterday from someone who found a body in a ditch on Mallard Road in Clear Creek. Deputies say the public is not in danger, as the death appears to be an isolated incident.

Investigation Shows Hot Air Balloon Was Losing Air

The NTSB released a preliminary report which states that after the balloon landed and was losing air, it blew toward the train and caught one of the cars on fire. Fire Damages Structure in EC

On Thursday June 16, 2022, at approximately 10 PM the Eau Claire Fire Department responded to 104 Illinois St for a report of a structure fire. Upon arrival fire crews found light smoke conditions on the 2nd floor of a residential group home. Evacuation had taken place and staff reported a fire in the bathroom. Event Connects City Leaders With First Responders

Bridge Project Crosses Finish Line Early

The County T bridge project has finished ahead of schedule.  Wisconsin D-O-T Secretary Craig Thompson and Barron County officials celebrated the completion of the bridge, which began in early April of this year. An entirely new bridge is now located north of U.S. Highway 8 near Barron.  The original bridge over the Vermillion River was built in 1965 and had been nearing the end of its usefulness.

New Program Aims to Keep WI Schools Safe

 The Wisconsin Department of Justice is launching a new initiative aimed at keeping schools safe.  This involves creating regional Critical Incident Response Teams across the state. The teams are made up of volunteers of multiple areas, including law enforcement, school administrators, counselors, and psychologists. All team members will attend a training session being held throughout the summer. The program is expected to launch in the fall. Wisconsin is the first state to implement regionally based Critical Incident Response Teams statewide.

New Major Unveiled At UWEC

The University of Wisconsin at Eau Claire has a new major.  Beginning in the fall of 2023, students can earn a Bachelor of Business Administration that is specifically in Business Communication. Not only will it be the first major of its kind at the UW System, but it is unique across the United States. Students seeking this particular major will take part in internships and community-based work that is applicable to the real world.

New Program Connects Area Campuses

Higher education is about to get easier for some western Wisconsin students. In partnership with the University of Wisconsin in Eau Claire, River Falls, and Stout, Chippewa Valley Technical College will now offer a new Associates of Arts degree. Sunem Beaton-Garcia, the president of CVTC, says a good portion of their students attend with the plan to transfer to one of the U-W campuses, so she thought these universities should help create this new degree.
