No Serious Injuries After Wausau Fire

 No serious injuries after an apartment fire in Wausau.  The fire broke out early this morning on a porch at an apartment complex in the two-thousand block of Grand Avenue.  The fire department says everyone made it out safely with one person suffering minor injuries.  The building has enough damage that no one’s being allowed to stay inside.  The cause hasn’t been determined.

Two Charged After Local Credit Card Thefts

On December 31, 2021, at 12:40pm, Lake Hallie Police received a report of a stolen credit card at the Wal-Mart Store, 2786 Commercial Blvd, Lake Hallie. The victim stated the credit card was used to make a $646.66 purchase at Farm and Fleet, located in the Village of Lake Hallie, on December 24th. Downtown Joins Forces

Visit Eau Claire announced their new partnership with Sculpture Tour Eau Claire. Sculpture Tour Eau Claire is an ongoing public art exhibit that installs outdoor sculptures along the public streets of downtown Eau Claire. Sculptures are  typically exhibited for 11 months and are  free to the public. Rittenhouse Gun Buyer Pleads No Contest

The man who bought the gun Kyle Rittenhouse used to shoot and kill two protestors in Kenosha, Wisconsin, is pleading no contest.  Dominick Black was charged in 2020 with two counts of intentionally giving a dangerous weapon to a person under the age of 18.  Black bought Rittenhouse an AR-15 when he was 17-years-old.  After testifying against Rittenhouse, Black was offered a plea deal in which he was ordered to pay a two-thousand-dollar fine plus court fees.  Rittenhouse was acquitted of

Fourth Arrest Made in Hayward Burglaries

On January 07, 2022 at 7:20 PM, Sawyer County Deputies arrested a fourth person involved in the burglaries and thefts that occurred in the Hayward area over the last several months. Deputies arrested Trevor James Wilson, 31, of Hayward during a traffic stop. Halderson Trial Continues

 The jury in Chandler Halderson’s trial started their second week by seeing more evidence from the prosecution. The D.A.’s office yesterday showed more pieces of physical evidence in the case. That included some of the blades that investigators say Halderson used to cut-up his parents’ bodies after he killed them. Chandler Halderson is facing life in prison if convicted.

Wausau Apartment Building Fire Under Investigation

 We are waiting for more information about an overnight apartment fire in Wausau. Firefighters say they got a call about smoke coming from an apartment not far from downtown just after midnight last night. Crews say the fire displaced several people, but they do not have an official count. There’s no word on any major injuries or on what started the fire.

Local Schools Plan for Learning Shifts

Eau Claire schools may move to online classes because there are not enough teachers to cover the classrooms. Conversation Continues for Local Stimulus Money

There is no list of specific projects for Eau Claire’s share of the state’s coronavirus stimulus money. The city council last night talked about the broad-strokes of a plan to spend the 13-and-a-half million-dollars that is coming to town. Once again city leaders say they want the money to go toward public health, affordable housing, homelessness, healthy childhood environments, behavioral healthcare, small businesses, nonprofits, and tourism. But no one is saying just what those projects would look like.
