Amazon Adds Building Plans to Cart

The Amazon facility in Cottage Grove is taking its next step forward. Cottage Grove’s village board last approved the plans for a new three-point-four million-square foot distribution center. Some neighbors don’t like the idea of such a large warehouse going-in near their homes. Cottage Grove says the project could be worth as much as 200-million-dollars, and bring 15-hundred new jobs to town.

It is certainly a sellers’ market in Wisconsin. The state’s Realtors Association released its latest report yesterday that says home prices are up while the supply of homes for sale is down. The median price for a home in Wisconsin is now 231-thousand-dollars, up from 210-thousand-dollars last year. But the actual price varies depending on where you are looking. The Realtors say statewide inventory is down nearly 15 percent compared to January of 2021. Interest rates are also increasing.

WI Coronavirus Cases Continue Downward Trend

Wisconsin’s coronavirus hospitalizations are under 700 for the first time since last summer. The state’s Hospital Association released its latest update yesterday. There are now just 689 people in the hospital with the virus, including 138 in the ICU. It’s the first time since last August that there are fewer than 700 people in the hospital and fewer than 150 people in the ICU in the state. Wisconsin has seen its coronavirus hospitalization numbers plummet since their peak in early January.

Central WI Woman Dies In Minnesota Car Crash

 A central Wisconsin woman is dead after a head-on car crash in Minnesota.  The Minnesota State Patrol says Winona State University student Hannah Goman of Stevens Point was riding in a car that was hit by a pickup truck in Winona early Saturday morning.  The driver and another passenger in the car were taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Money Raised for Families of Fallen Firefighters

Tens of thousands of dollars are raised for families of fallen firefighters in southern Wisconsin.  First responders in Highland held a BBQ fundraiser for the families over the weekend.  They received 20-thousand dollars in donations, double their initial goal.  That money will be given to the families of fallen firefighters from Mineral Falls.

Sports fans in and around Milwaukee will soon be able to bet on the games. Governor Evers and the Forest County Potawatomi on Friday announced a new deal to open a sports book at the Potawatomi Casino. The hope is to have the sports betting area open by the end of the year. There are questions to be answered about the fight that ended yesterday’s basketball game between Wisconsin and Michigan. Michigan coach Juwan Howard slapped a UW assistant coach in the face after having words with head coach Greg Guard. That set-off a scrum between players. Weather Leads to Multiple Lake Rescues in Winnebago Co.

It was a busy weekend for rescue crews in Winnebago County. The sheriff’s office says they had to pull at least 25 people off the ice on Lake Winnebago, Lake Poygan and Lake Butte des Morts between Friday night and Saturday morning. Friday night’s blizzard-like conditions are getting some of the blame. Deputies say fishermen couldn’t see where they were going.
