Quick Reminder for Slow Movers

There’s a request to be turtle-aware in Wisconsin. The state’s Department of Natural Resources yesterday said turtles are looking to lay their eggs over the next couple of weeks. That means more turtles will be out on the roads, especially near wetlands. DNR says Wood turtles and Blanding’s turtles are especially vulnerable right now. The state wants you to report any turtle crossings you see, so they can better track turtles in the state.

UWEC Leads the Pack in Track

The University of Wisconsin Eau Claire is once again the best men’s track and field team in the country. The Blugolds won the NCAA Division Three Outdoor Track title on Saturday. The win comes after the team won the indoor title back in March. It’s the first time the men’s team has won both titles in the same year.

Gavel Could Drop Soon on WI Ballot Drop Boxes

We’re expecting a ruling on ballot drop boxes in Wisconsin this week. A judge in Madison has a hearing scheduled for the case from the Thomas More Society that is challenging the use of drop boxes in the 2020 election. Lawyers say the drop boxes are not allowed under state law, and say Madison’s use of them breaks the law. Pump Punches Back

Drivers in Wisconsin are paying record-high prices for gas on this Memorial Day. Triple-A says the average price for a gallon of regular in the state is four-dollars and 41-cents per-gallon. That’s four cents higher than yesterday, and a dime more expensive than it was last week. Triple-A says the average price for a gallon of premium is five-dollars-and-16-cents and the average price for a gallon of diesel is five-oh-seven. Gas prices in Eau Claire are high, but below the state average.

DNR Reminds Folks of Boater Safety

There’s a reminder about boater safety this Memorial Day weekend. The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources is asking people to be safe and responsible while out on the water. Memorial Day Weekend is one of the busiest for boaters in the state, and brings-out people who don’t boat often. DNR says make sure everyone has a life jacket, and make sure the boat’s driver stays sober.

RNC Static Continues in MKE

Milwaukee’s mayor says the six-million-dollar demand from the city’s common council to host the RNC is a ‘poison pill’ and a ‘non-starter’ with him. The city council last week delayed a vote on the agreement that could land Milwaukee the Republican National Convention in 2024 and demanded that the city get something in return for hosting the convention. Mayor Cavalier Johnson says that demand cannot happen, and said it looks to be designed to kill the city’s chances of hosting

Body Recovered From La Crosse River

 A person’s body is recovered from the La Crosse River.  A canoer spotted the body yesterday after the noon hour near Hammer Road in Sparta.  The Monroe County Sheriff’s office is investigating the case which is still open and active.  There is no word so far whether foul play is suspected in the case.
