 No one is saying when the train cars that jumped the tracks in Altoona will be cleaned-up. We do know that no one was hurt when 12 cars derailed on Saturday. The Union Pacific Railroad says the cars were empty when they went off the tracks Saturday afternoon. There’s an investigation into the derailment as well.

Avery’s Lawyer Plans to File New Petition

Steven Avery’s lawyer is planning to file a new petition in his case. Attorney Kathleen Zellner said on Twitter on Saturday that she will be filing something ‘very soon.’  Avery continues to serve his life sentence for the 2005 murder of Teresa Halbach. Zellner isn’t saying just what she is planning to file, or when.

Big Week For Wisconsin Bench

The Wisconsin Supreme Court has a big week. The justices will hear arguments about school gender policies and ballot drop boxes. The case on gender comes from Madison, where a parent filed a lawsuit over Madison School’s policy to keep kids’ gender changes at school secret. That will be heard tomorrow. The ballot drop box case could decide whether drop boxes will be allowed going forward in the state. That case will be argued Wednesday morning.

Public Health Peek: WI Coronavirus Cases Steady

Wisconsin’s coronavirus hospitalization numbers haven’t changed much. The state’s Hospital Association on Friday said 157 people are in the hospital with the virus. That’s up a few from last Thursday’s report. There continue to be just 26 people in the ICU with the virus. Wisconsin’s coronavirus hospitalization numbers have remained near 150 for the past week or so. CLICK FOR MORE FROM WI DHS.

Former Badger Assistant Coach Passes Away

Badger fans are mourning the loss of former assistant football coach Gary Brown. He passed away yesterday after several weeks in hospice. He was 52. Brown played college football at Penn State before going to the NFL. He coached running backs while at Wisconsin, but left after the 2021 season. Brown battled cancer twice, including a bout in 2019. His cause of death is not officially known.

Sick Eagle Unable to Be Treated

There’s a sad update to the story of a sick bald eagle found in Bay View. Veterinarians say they had to put the bird down over the weekend. Someone brought the eagle to the Humane Society with what looked to be the bird flu. After treatments, vets say they decided to ease the bird’s suffering. DNR and animal rescuers are now watching to see if the eagle’s partner will stay in Bay View or leave.

New Law Means New Youth Prison in Milwaukee Co.

It is now up to Milwaukee and Milwaukee County leaders to find a new spot for a new youth prison. Governor Evers on Friday signed the law that will close the troubled Lincoln Hills prison in northern Wisconsin and open a new facility in Milwaukee County. The law provides 45 million-dollars for the new prison, but it doesn’t provide any clarity as to where the new facility will be built. Local leaders will have to work that out. Rollover Crash Causes Backups for Miles

WI State Patrol Troopers responded to a rollover crash at milepost 41 just west of Menomonie. A motorhome traveling eastbound lost control and crashed into the median, damaging approximately 100 feet of guardrail. Both eastbound lanes of traffic were closed during the removal and cleanup process. Traffic was able to continue eastbound on the right shoulder, causing a three-mile backup and traffic delays for approximately three hours.

Wisconsin Connection to World Stage

A rally to support Ukraine was held at the state Capitol yesterday.  Madison Mayor Satya Rhodes-Conway declared Saturday, April 9th as ‘Solidarity with Ukraine Day,’ and called on Madison residents “to join us in expressing support for the people of Ukraine,” which has been under attack by Russia for six weeks.  Ukraine’s national anthem was played at the outdoor rally, which featured testimonials from Ukrainians who fled the country and came to Wisconsin.
