Prosecution Presents Witnesses In Waukesha Christmas Parade Trial

The Waukesha Christmas Parade trial started with an apology and ended with a string of witnesses telling the jury that Darrell Brooks Jr. ran through the parade last November.  Brooks, who showed-up in court in a suit and tie, started the day by apologizing to the judge for his behavior last week.  He said the trial has been very emotional.  Brooks was sent to a different courtroom every day last week because of his outbursts. Rusk Co. Fire Under Investigation

The sheriff in Rusk County is looking for a woman whose home burned down over the weekend. The sheriff’s office yesterday said no one has seen Ginger Bryant since before the fire at her house in the Township of Washington. No one knows where she went. Deputies say they want to make sure Bryant is okay, and make sure that no one else was in her home when it burned.

Rice Lake Schools Approve Name Change Policy

Add Rice Lake Schools to the list of schools in Wisconsin that are not allowing transgender name changes at school without permission. The school board there approved a policy last night that requires a parent to sign-off before a student can change their name at school. Ballot Back and Forth

The judge’s order that bans voter do-overs in Wisconsin is on hold, for now. An appeals court yesterday gave the Wisconsin Elections Commission a temporary stay so it can make a case for its rules on ‘spoiling ballots.’ That’s the official name for getting a second ballot. Wisconsin law allows voters to get a second ballot, but a judge in Waukesha last week said that law only applies before a voter turns their ballot in. Last Polls Due Tomorrow

We’re going to get our last snapshot of Wisconsin’s races for governor and U.S. Senate tomorrow. The final Marquette Law School Poll of the election season is due out tomorrow at noon. Both races are close. Recent polls give Governor Evers a slight lead over Republican Tim Michels, and give Republican U.S. Senator Ron Johnson a lead over Democrat Mandela Barnes. Voters will decide the races in a little less than a month.

WI City Clears Backyard Hunts

Some people in Oconomowoc will be able to hunt deer from the backyards under the city’s newest plan.  The common council there voted last week to allow people to bow hunt deer inside the city as a way to thin the deer population.  Homeowners will need to be at least 50 yards away from their home and their neighbor’s homes to shoot at a deer.  Oconomowoc is also opening-up two pieces of city owned land for hunting.  Bow hunting season

EC Cemeteries Prep For Seasonal Clean-Up

The City of Eau Claire Cemeteries staff will be performing their semi- annual clean-up of Eau Claire’s two cemeteries on Monday, October 17, 2022 and remind everyone that personal items and summer decorations that they wish to keep should be removed from grave sites on or before October 17, items remaining after that date will be removed by staff. WI Gas Prices Trending Back Up

Wisconsin now has some of the highest gas prices in the Midwest.  Triple-A says the statewide average is three dollars and 98-cents a gallon, up five-cents from this time last week.  Illinois, Indiana, and Michigan are the only Midwest states where gas is more expensive.  The average in Madison is over four dollars at four-oh-five a gallon.

Madison Ranks High in City Safety

Madison is one of the top-15 safest cities in the country.  WalletHub ranks Madison 13th compared to the 182 largest cities in the country based on over three dozen safety indicators.  WalletHub says Madison ranks 15th for home and community safety but just 89th for natural disaster risk.  WalletHub says the safest city in the U.S. is Columbia, Maryland and the least safe is St. Louis, Missouri.

MKE Cracks Down With New Towing Program

Milwaukee Police say they’ve taken cars from at least 100 reckless drivers. The city announced the numbers from the first few months of its crackdown on reckless driving. Police say they’ve towed over 100 cars and made six arrests. Half of the cars towed were taken from drivers who don’t own those cars.
