Teachers in Eau Claire schools are getting the state maximum in their new raises. The city’s school board last night okayed a four-point-seven percent pay hike for teachers. School Board president Tim Nordin said the school board wanted to send the message that it supports teachers. The new raises will take effect in July.

City leaders in La Crosse are opening one of their parks to the homeless. The city yesterday declared Houska Park as a homeless ‘safe space.’ That means police will not stop homeless people from setting-up camp at the riverfront park. La Crosse will allow the homeless to stay in the park until the end of October, City leaders say they continue to want to find a permanent home for the city’s homeless population.

A lot of people are not happy about Wisconsin’s medical marijuana plan, and supporters say they understand that. But Republican state Senator Mary Felzkowski yesterday said the goal is to get what they can now, and get more later. Wisconsin’s state superintendent of schools is stepping into the debate over lessons on race and LGBTQ issues. Superintendent Jill Underly yesterday released an op-ed that defended school policies on gender and race as creating safe spaces and saving lives. The next night out for Brewer fans could be on the team. The Brewers yesterday announced a player-led plan to pay-off bar tabs at certain bars, on Friday away-game nights for the rest of the season. State lawmakers have some questions about what the Wisconsin National Guard is doing about sexual misconduct. The legislature yesterday announced a series of summer hearings, including one on the guard’s misconduct procedures. Lawmakers say the plan is to ‘study’ the issue. The move comes after a 2019 investigation into misconduct at Madison’s Air National Guard base. That investigation led to the replacement of the base’s commander last year.

One of the suspects in the theft of the Hatched Baby in La Crosse will pay a fine to avoid jail time. A judge yesterday ordered Matthew Reich to pay just over 66-hundred dollars in restitution as part of a diversion agreement. Reich pleaded no contest to charges that he received stolen property. He was caught last fall with the Blue Baby from the Hatched Baby sculpture that used to sit in front of La Crosse’s city hall. The artist
