California Man Faces Charges for WI Threats

 Investigators believe the man charged with threatening Eau Claire’s school board president also threatened other people over gender issues. Prosecutors last week charged 34-year-old Jeremy Hanson of California for threatening Tim Nordin over Eau Claire Schools’ gender policy. He’s also facing charges for allegedly threatening the people who work at Merriam-Webster, the dictionary company. Investigators say Hanson was furious over the new definitions for ‘girl’ and ‘woman.’

WI Governors’ Race Adds Republican

The Republican race for governor in Wisconsin is changing. Builder Tim Michels announced on Friday that he is running for governor, and he will launch a million-dollar TV ad blitz starting today. Michels ran for the US Senate back in 2004 and lost. He hasn’t run since, but politicos say he has plenty of his own money to spend on the race. Michels joins former Lt. Governor Rebecca Kleefisch, candidate Kevin Nicholson, and state Rep. Tim Ramthun in the Republican field.

Milwaukee Violence Continues

The tally from Milwaukee’s latest violent weekend is two dead, 12 others wounded. Police in the city say 14 people were shot in separate shootings on Saturday and Sunday. Only two people died, but officers say others are fighting for their lives. It’s not known if any of the shootings are connected in any way. Milwaukee Police say they made two arrests connected to the string of shootings.

WIAA Playbook Stays Away From Courts

The folks who run high school sports in Wisconsin are looking to stay out of the courtroom. The WIAA is considering rule changes this week that add penalties for anyone who tries to get a judge or a court to overrule a ruling from WIAA officials. Gov. Evers Creates new Environmental Justice Office

Wisconsin’s governor marked Earth Day by creating a new state office dedicated to environmental justice. Governor Evers on Friday issued an executive order that created the Office of Environmental Justice. The governor says the new office will ‘spearhead policies and strategies to enhance climate resilience.’ Republican lawmakers say the governor is ignoring the real issues of inflation and crime in Wisconsin.

Slight Uptick in Coronavirus Hospitalizations

Wisconsin is starting the week with about 160 people in the hospital with the coronavirus. The state’s Hospital Association on Friday reported 162 coronavirus hospitalizations, including 33 people in the ICU. Medicaid Coverage Extends to Opioid Treatment Patients

In Wisconsin, opioid treatment patients on Medicaid are getting their room and board cost covered at treatment centers.  The state’s Department of Health Services said on Thursday a federal grant is paying for the program for over a thousand opioid patients on Medicaid around Wisconsin.  More than 50-counties as well as four tribal nations are getting the benefit of the federal grant money for the program.

Family Honors Life of UW Athlete

 A Wisconsin Badger athlete is dead.  Yesterday the family of track and field athlete Sarah Shulze confirmed she took her own life on Wednesday, April 13th.  The UW-Madison junior and Oak Park, California native was Academic All-Big Ten in cross country and in track during her time as a Badger.  A memorial service for Shulze is scheduled for this Sunday afternoon from 5:00-p.m. to 8:00-p.m. on campus at Memorial Union followed by a second service to be held for her in May

Eau Claire Co. Crash Ends In OWI For Chicago Man

Roy J. Campbell, 34 years of age, from Chicago, IL has been arrested by the Wisconsin State Patrol Eau Claire Post for operating a motor vehicle under the influence, 1st offense, with two children in the vehicle under the age of 16. On 04-22-22, at approximately 9:55 p.m., a WI State Patrol Trooper responded to a report of a vehicle crash on I-94 at mile marker 118 in Jackson County.
