EC Marathon In The Books

If you are celebrating a goal reached or personal best, congratulations! It was a cold weekend for runners to return to the Eau Claire marathon. Over two thousand runners braved the chilly temperatures to run either Saturday or yesterday. Rachel Ragona of Eau Claire won the women’s race in two hours and 52 minutes. Hayden Fredrickson of Viroqua won the men’s race, running the 26-point-2 mile course in two hours and 31 minutes.

DNR Looks For Public Input on Air Quality

A website offered by a state agency allows for the public’s interaction with government on the issue of air quality.  The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources has a new information page for public engagement on all things clean air. Rally Calls for Change in Wisconsin Politics

A group of conservative demonstrators calls for change at the state legislature.  The rally yesterday featured speakers including talk show host Joe Giganti, state assemblyman and candidate for Governor, Tim Ramthun and former state Supreme Court Justice Michael Gableman.  The demonstrators called for decertification of the 2020 elections in Wisconsin among other issues.

Special Olympics Welcomes New Director

Special Olympics in Wisconsin has a new director.  The organization announced on Friday that  Chad Hershner has been selected as the new President and CEO.  Hershner’s first day on the job is May 16th.  Hershner says he welcomes the chance to “create communities of inclusion throughout Wisconsin.”

Former Badger Goes Bigtime

A former Wisconsin Badger is headed to  Kansas City.  The Chiefs selected linebacker Leo Chenal as the 103rd overall pick in the NFL draft. Chenal led the Badgers in total tackles last season.  Chenal said, “being able to play at the most elite level in the entire world is something crazy to think about, it’s an honor alone.”

Sisters Arrested In Major WI Drug Bust

The Crawford County Sheriff’s Office says two sisters from Onalaska are among the biggest meth dealers in southwest Wisconsin.  The sheriff’s office says the sisters have been caught with thousands of dollars worth of meth.  One of the sisters was recently indicted on two counts of possessing over 50 grams of meth with the intent to distribute.  She faces up to 40 years in prison.

Avian Flu Identified in Two More WI Counties

The Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection (DATCP) has identified new cases of highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) in backyard flocks in Fond du Lac and Oconto counties. Both flocks were depopulated to prevent spread of the disease. HPAI has now been found in domestic flocks in nine counties. As cases rise in Wisconsin and neighboring states, DATCP urges flock owners to monitor their birds and immediately report increased mortality or signs of disease, which include: Sudden death

Friday Feel Good: The Catch of a Lifetime

For this week’s Friday Feel Good we cast the lines and reel in a whopper of a story.  A teen in England, who hunts for treasure with his dad by magnet fishing, found a small safe at the bottom of a river last month, and that was surprise enough.
