Logo Triggers Lawsuit in Political Campaign

There’s a lawsuit over a small piece of one of the campaign commercials in Wisconsin’s governor’s race.  Froedtert Health is suing Republican Tim Michels because one of Michels’ ads includes the hospital’s logo.  The ad features Michels’ 15 million-dollar donation to the hospital from back in the spring, but it also includes some of Froedter’s branding.  The hospital says its status as a non-profit prohibits it from being part of any political campaign.  Froedtert is asking a judge to order Michels

Local Governments Seek Funding

Local governments across Wisconsin are, once again, pressing for more state money.  The League of Wisconsin Municipalities yesterday said many cities in the state are looking at local funding shortfalls.  The League says if lawmakers don’t increase the state’s shared revenue, they will be forced to ask voters for local tax increases.  The League’s president said Wisconsin has a ‘broken system of funding local government.’ State lawmakers have opposed giving cities and counties more state money, saying many communities don’t spend what they have responsibly.

Oh, Deer! Plans Move Forward For Deer District

Plans for a new live music venue in the Deer District are one step closer to reality. A Milwaukee common council committee yesterday okayed the zoning changes for the new venue. The full council will vote on the plan next week. There continues to be stiff opposition to the plan, many of Milwaukee’s other live music venues say they don’t need any more competition. Live Nation and the Bucks are driving the effort for the new venues.

Holiday Tradition Back on Tracks

One of Wisconsin’s holiday traditions is returning this year. Canadian Pacific last week said its Holiday Train will once again make its trek through Wisconsin. There are 13 stops in the state, including six in southeast Wisconsin on December 8th and 9th. The train was canceled for the past two years because of the coronavirus.

Seven members of the Green Bay Packers football team — linebacker Kingsley Enagbare, running back Aaron Jones, wide receiver Romeo Doubs, tackle Sean Rhyan, wide receiver Samori Toure, tackle Rasheed Walker and defensive lineman Johnathan Ford — visited the Wisconsin National Guard Challenge Academy campus at Fort McCoy, Wis., Oct. 18. WI Trooper Protects Injured Eagle

The Wisconsin State Patrol is thanking a trooper for protecting an injured bald eagle.  The State Patrol says a trooper was patrolling U.S. 12 in Monroe County recently when they saw the eagle and noticed it was hurt.  The State Patrol says the trooper protected the eagle with their cruiser until the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources could get there.

WI Man Accused Of Voter Fraud

A man from Fond Du Lac is accused of voting twice in the 2020 election.  Edward Malnar is charged with casting absentee ballots in both Wisconsin and Michigan and voting in-person on Election Day in Wisconsin.  A criminal complaint was filed Monday and Fond du Lac County District Attorney Eric Toney filed charges against Malnar today.  He faces three-and-a-half years in prison.

Local Booster Shots Available

The updated fall booster doses for COVID-19 are now available for everyone age 5 and over. These booster shots help protect against the Omicron variant as well as the original strain of COVID-19. The CDC recommends that anyone age 5 or older who has already received their first doses of the COVID-19 vaccine make a plan to get this booster. Guilty Plea Expected in Case Of Murdered UW Madison Student

It looks like there will be a guilty plea in the 2008 murder of a UW-Madison student.  Lawyers for David Kahl have asked for a plea hearing this week.  He was arrested back in 2020 after his DNA matched a sample from Brittany Zimmermann’s murder.  She was stabbed and strangled in her campus apartment.  Kahl originally pleaded not guilty in the case, though he did tell investigators that he was high on crack on the day that Zimmermann died.

Explosion Causes Millions in Damage

Investigators say Friday’s explosion at two homes in Oregon caused two million-dollars damage.  The Oregon Area Fire Department yesterday didn’t say what caused the being-built homes to explode, but said the homes are a total loss.  No one was hurt in the explosions.  Neighbors say they heard a rumble, then a boom.  Fire investigators say they will release more information about the cause once they find out just what caused the blast.
