The family of a woman killed by one of Governor Evers’ parolees finally has a meeting with the governor. Johanna Balsewicz’s family says they’ve been promised a meeting with the governor next Tuesday, the same day that Douglas Balsewicz is set to leave prison. He killed Johanna back in 1997, police in West Allis say he stabbed her over 40 times. Balsewicz was sentenced to 80 years in prison, but the governor’s parole board last month approved his release .

It’s life in prison with the possibility of parole for the young man who killed a Dane County jogger back in 2020. A judge yesterday sentenced Riley Berg to life behind bars. Berg will have a chance at parole starting in 30 years. Police say Berg shot, then slashed the throat of Navy veteran Nicholas Day while Day was jogging along a rural Dane County road back in 2020. A man wanted in several states on a number of charges is behind bars in the Dells after a multi-county car chase. The State Patrol yesterday said troopers arrested Dustin Hendricks from North Dakota near Lake Delton last week. He’s wanted for failing to register as a sex offender in North Dakota, and for speeding away from police in Texas. Organizers at Hope Village in Chippewa Falls are raising money to expand their homeless tiny village. The plan is to raise two-point-seven million-dollars to add a community building and consolidate at their land on Kennedy Road. Chippewa Falls has been without a homeless shelter since 2014, when the Harmony House closed. The idea is to eventually have both eleven tiny homes, as well as five new duplexes and three new 6-plexes built at the new site.

There’s a new director at Eau Claire’s library. The library board yesterday said they’ve chosen Nancy Kerr as their new director. Kerr is coming to Eau Claire from Longmont, Colorado. She says she is excited about the opportunity in Eau Claire and at the L.E. Phillips Library.
