On September 23, 2022 at 10:34pm, the Sawyer County Dispatch Center received a 911 call of a person and a vehicle on fire on River Road in the Town of Hunter. It was another deadly weekend in Milwaukee. The county medical examiner is investigating six homicides that happened between Friday night and last night. At least four of the deaths were shootings. Milwaukee Police say there’s no evidence that the shootings are connected. There’s no word about suspects, motives, or arrests in most of the cases.

The debate over debates is on-going in the race for U.S. Senate in Wisconsin.  Democratic candidate Mandela Barnes on Friday agreed to two debates, and challenged Republican U.S. Senator Ron Johnson to a third.  Barnes says he is committing to the Wisconsin Broadcast Association’s debate next Friday night, and a debate hosted by Milwaukee TV station WTMJ the next Thursday.  Barnes also wants Johnson to appear at a forum hosted by the Main Street Alliance and the Wisconsin Farmers Union, which is scheduled toward the

Brett Favre’s involvement in a Mississippi welfare scandal has cost him his radio gig, for the time being.  Milwaukee’s ESPN Radio affiliate has paused Favre’s Monday morning appearances.  The decision comes as information continues to come out that shows Favre was more involved in the scheme than first reported.  Text messages show he knew the money he was paid for speeches was actually meant for low-income families. Favre will not be on the radio this morning.

For the second year in a row nearly three-quarters of kids in Eau Claire schools say they feel welcome.  The city’s school district released the results from its latest survey of students and parents.  The numbers show 76-percent of kids say they feel like they belong, while just 14-percent say they don’t.  That’s a slight drop from last year, but that’s because more kids said they didn’t know this year.  Eau Claire School Board President Tim Nordin said he’s concerned

Eau Claire and Stout saw some of the biggest enrollment declines among all UW campuses this year.  Last week’s enrollment numbers show UW-Eau Claire is down about five percent, or about 580 students.  UW-Stout saw enrollment drop six-percent, or about 470 students.  Only the Madison and Green Bay campuses added students this fall, UW-La Crosse’s enrollment was flat.

Wisconsin’s governor is criticizing his opponent this fall over his latest thoughts on abortion.  Governor Evers on Friday said Tim Michels is being dishonest and is trying to hide his position on abortion from voters.  Evers’ comments came after Michels said he’d sign a law adding exemptions to Wisconsin’s 1849 abortion law.  The governor has made abortion the centerpiece of his re-election bid, and has spent millions of dollars on ads that call Michels radical.  Michels says he is pro-life, but

Wisconsin’s coronavirus hospitalizations continue to drop.  The state’s Hospital Association on Friday said there are 385 people in the hospital with the virus, that’s down from the week before.  Wisconsin spent most of August with nearly 500 people in the hospital with the virus.  These are the kind of hospitalization numbers the state saw last spring. Hundreds of anti-abortion protesters showed up at the State Capitol Saturday for a pro-life rally.  The annual March for Life Wisconsin rally was organized by the group Pro-Life Wisconsin, and included speakers.  Some pro-choice protesters also showed up to voice their dissent.  It was the first March for Life event in Wisconsin since the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade.  Governor Tony Evers has called for a special session of the legislature to allow voters to repeal Wisconsin’s abortion ban.
