Wausau Financial Advisor Facing Federal Charges

A Wausau investment advisor is facing federal charges.  Prosecutors say he ran a scam in which he took in over fifteen million dollars from an estimated 120 victims.  Stanley Pophal appeared in court yesterday on charges including wire fraud and money laundering.  He is being held without bail.

Arson Charges for Onalaska Fireworks Incident

Arson charges have been brought against an Onalaska man that authorities say set off fireworks in a neighbor’s bathroom.  According to reports, 60-year-old Jay Wiltse put the lit fireworks through the window of his neighbor.  The victim reports that Wiltse believes his girlfriend is sleeping with the neighbor.

Chase Leads to Arrest for Holcombe Man

Charges are being filed against a Holcombe man accused of leading officers in a Sunday pursuit through parts of Rusk and Chippewa Counties.  Reports say that 50-year-old Patrick Buswell failed to pull over for a traffic stop on Highway 27, and instead led officers in a chase on his motorcycle that spanned about 25 miles.  Buswell was eventually apprehended and is looking at a list of charges that include attempt to flee, drug possession and resisting arrest.

WI Joins Purdue Pharma Settlement

 Attorney General Josh Kaul is joining 54 attorneys general in the billion dollar settlement agreement against Purdue Pharma.  The settlement is a response to the company’s alleged role in worsening the opioid crisis nationwide.  The company owners say they plan on moving forward with the settlement.  The state of Wisconsin and its cities would receive about 80 million dollars over 15 years.  Kaul says the resolution will bring more resources to fight the opioid crisis.

WI Co. Cracks Down on ATV Use by Minors

The Florence County Sheriff’s Office is planning to enforce the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources’ rules on ATV use by minors.  Authorities say no one between the ages of 12 and 15 can operate the vehicles without adult supervision and kids younger than 12 are not permitted to operate them at all.  The sheriff’s office says deputies have looked the other way when kids over 12 were riding ATV’s to and from school but now those riders have begun causing

Suspect Arrested in Sawyer Co. Standoff

On June 15th at 11:58 am, the Sawyer County Dispatch Center received a call reporting a man with a gun at a residence located on Sun-N-Sno Road in the Town of Round Lake. The caller, who was caretaking for the homeowners dogs at the residence, reported an unknown male occupant inside the residence who claimed he resided there. The caller also reported that the unknown male was in possession a handgun and an AR-15 style rifle.  Sawyer County Deputies responded

MN Suspected Shooter Has WI Ties

The man accused of shooting and killing a Minnesota lawmaker and her husband has ties to Wisconsin. Investigators say 57-year-old Vance Boelter, the shooter who targeted two Minnesota lawmakers over the weekend, once owned a home in the town of Sheboygan. Those records show he bought the home in 2005 and sold it in 2014. Boelter’s LinkedIn profile suggests he was an operations leader at Johnsonville Sausage from 2004 to 2008, although the company has not confirmed his employment. The
