License Plate Violation Leads to OWI

A Rice Lake man picks up an OWI in Eau Claire. On October 10th at 6:04pm a Trooper with the Wisconsin State Patrol, Eau Claire Post, stopped a vehicle on I94 westbound near mile marker 121 in Jackson County for a cracked windshield and license plate violation. The Trooper detected indicators of criminal activity from the driver and vehicle. A probable cause search was completed on the vehicle. Peek At The Polls Planned

We’re going to get our last snapshot of Wisconsin’s races for governor and U.S. Senate tomorrow. The final Marquette Law School Poll of the election season is due out tomorrow at noon. Both races are close. Recent polls give Governor Evers a slight lead over Republican Tim Michels, and give Republican U.S. Senator Ron Johnson a lead over Democrat Mandela Barnes. Voters will decide the races in a little less than a month.

UW Madison Freshman Class Sets Fresh Record

The freshman class at UW-Madison is a record-breaker. The university yesterday said there are eight thousand-628 freshmen on campus this fall. Nearly 60 percent of the freshmen class at UW-Madison is from outside of Wisconsin. Madison is one of just two UW campuses that saw enrollment increase this year. All others were either flat or lost students.

Poll Watcher Rules Stand

The rules for poll watchers in Wisconsin are not changing. The state’s Elections Commission was deadlocked yesterday on a plan to clarify the rules for where election observers can stand on Election Day. Republican Commission chairman Don Millis said he wanted to give some guidance to local election clerks who may be nervous about next month’s elections. Prosecution Presents Witnesses In Waukesha Christmas Parade Trial

The Waukesha Christmas Parade trial started with an apology and ended with a string of witnesses telling the jury that Darrell Brooks Jr. ran through the parade last November.  Brooks, who showed-up in court in a suit and tie, started the day by apologizing to the judge for his behavior last week.  He said the trial has been very emotional.  Brooks was sent to a different courtroom every day last week because of his outbursts. Rusk Co. Fire Under Investigation

The sheriff in Rusk County is looking for a woman whose home burned down over the weekend. The sheriff’s office yesterday said no one has seen Ginger Bryant since before the fire at her house in the Township of Washington. No one knows where she went. Deputies say they want to make sure Bryant is okay, and make sure that no one else was in her home when it burned.

Rice Lake Schools Approve Name Change Policy

Add Rice Lake Schools to the list of schools in Wisconsin that are not allowing transgender name changes at school without permission. The school board there approved a policy last night that requires a parent to sign-off before a student can change their name at school. The judge’s order that bans voter do-overs in Wisconsin is on hold, for now. An appeals court yesterday gave the Wisconsin Elections Commission a temporary stay so it can make a case for its rules on ‘spoiling ballots.’ That’s the official name for getting a second ballot. Wisconsin law allows voters to get a second ballot, but a judge in Waukesha last week said that law only applies before a voter turns their ballot in.
