Baraboo’s Circus World Museum will soon be looking for a new ringmaster.  Dave Saloutos is retiring after a 39-year career as Circus World ringmaster.  Saloutos’ last presentation in the center ring is the last show of the summer season, Sunday, August 28th at Circus World Museum on Water Street.

Several deer at a farm in Waukesha County have been sacrificed after an outbreak of chronic wasting disease there.  The Wisconsin Department of Agriculture confirmed the euthanizing of 20-deer in the herd, eight of which tested positive for the debilitating disease.  The Watertown Daily Times reported on Thursday that the farm operator will receive federal compensation for the loss.  The report says the farm won’t be able to keep and raise deer for the next five years as part of preventive measures

A Madison Police Sergeant is recovering after getting dragged by a suspect’s vehicle. The MPD Sergeant responded to a domestic violence call yesterday morning when he caught up with the suspect and a passenger in a vehicle in a parking lot on East Washington Avenue.  The officer managed to get the passenger in the vehicle to safety but was then dragged around the parking lot before the suspect drove off and has yet to be found and arrested. Seventy percent of rural schools in Wisconsin don’t have enough teachers with the first day of school less than two weeks away.  A new survey finds only 31 percent of rural schools say they’re fully staffed.

Four Wisconsin companies are issuing voluntary recalls of lard products. These are Class I recalls, initiated based on evidence collected during routine inspections by state inspectors. Evidence shows that the products were not produced under a Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) food safety plan. No illnesses have been reported as a result of consuming these products. Kohl’s is blaming inflation for a cut in its financial forecast.  The Wisconsin-based retail chain now projects net sales to decline by up to six-percent.  It also slashed earnings per share expectations by more than half.  Kohl’s says shoppers aren’t going to stores as much and if they do, they’re spending less money each time they go.

Larry Lokken wants his stuff back. Lokken, who is serving nine years in prison for stealing over a million-dollars from county taxpayers, asked a judge earlier this month to return the things taken from him during the investigation. Some of those things were taken six years ago. Lokken has about three years left on his sentence, and has yet to repay the county for all of the money he stole.
