In the Chippewa Valley dirt track racing began in the 1940s, ice racing in
the 1950s, and there’s go kart, snowmobile, and motorcycle racing too. If a machine has a motor, somebody has figured out how to race it. The need for speed remains a popular past time and now it is being highlighted from times past.
The Chippewa Valley Museum will explore the who, what, and where of racing with its new exhibit Racing in the Chippewa Valley opening on June 25, and running through October 26.
Admission to the exhibit is included with regular museum admission, which is $7 for adults, $4 for kids ages 5-17. Museum members and children 4 and under are free. The Chippewa Valley Museum is located at 1204 East Half Moon Drive in Eau Claire’s scenic Carson Park. Hours are 10-5 Monday – Saturday and 1-4 Sundays. The museum is also open on Tuesday evenings from 5 to 8 pm.
