PETA is asking federal regulators to investigate two incidents involving monkeys at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
The animal rights group sent a letter to the U.S. Department of Agriculture alleging one monkey required a forearm amputation after being attacked through an adjacent food opening. PETA says another monkey suffered severe oral injuries after workers left interlocking doors unsecured, allowing neighboring animals to fight. The group says the USDA has cited the university for eight animal welfare violations since 2024. UW-Madison says it complies with federal inspections, reports incidents, and corrects problems.
