Governor Tony Evers is calling on Wisconsin lawmakers to keep working, not campaign.
The governor gave his eighth and final State of the State address to the Legislature last night, imploring Republicans to focus on priorities rather than November’s election. Evers said the Legislature may “rather hit the road and take the rest of the year off,” but asked they stick around until the work is finished. The two-term governor also spoke about bipartisan accomplishments during his time in office, and hopes to continue that during his final year in office. That includes tax relief and resources for K through 12 education.
Showing you different sides so you can decide, many Republicans were not a fan of the speech, as you might imagine.
Wisconsin Republicans are criticizing the governor’s final State of the State address. Tony Evers gave that speech last night, highlighting bipartisan accomplishments and the strong financial shape of the Badger State. Republican Senator Patrick Testin said he appreciated the governor’s bipartisan shoutout, but claimed more could’ve been accomplished if Evers wasn’t “playing partisan political games.” He argued Wisconsin’s strong financial shape is “in spite of” Evers and “not because of him.” The Stevens Point lawmaker also blamed Evers for proposing “unsustainable state budgets” causing financial harm to the state.
