Wisconsin Congressman Tom Tiffany is reintroducing legislation to have the Apostle Islands designated as a national park.
The islands are just off the coast of the Red Cliff reservation and the Red Cliff Ojibwe tribe previously stated that they oppose such an action due to concerns about a possible influx of visitors. Tiffany introduced the measure in the House on Thursday saying that the Apostle Islands are a national treasure and deserve the distinction of becoming the state’s first National Park.
