Local Sandbags Offered Ahead of Predicted Rain

Officials in Chippewa County want residents and business owners to be prepared for the possibility of heavy rainfall tonight and tomorrow. 

BELOW IS ADDTIONAL INFORMATION FROM Sheriff Travis Hakes:

The Chippewa County Sheriff’s Office in conjunction with the Chippewa County Highway Department want to inform Chippewa County Residents that with the possibility of heavy rainfall late Friday August 15, and Saturday August 16 2025; we are making sand bags available. The Emergency Management Division of the Chippewa County Sheriff’s Office has been closely monitoring information from the National Weather Service that would indicate that Chippewa County will likely receive heavy rain, up to 5” which could cause flash flooding.

Due to the weather concerns, we are notifying the public of our preparations in the event the storm ends up causing flooding concerns.

50 Sand bags per resident will be available at the Chippewa County Sheriff’s Office Lobby (open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week) located at 32 E Spruce St, Chippewa Falls, WI 54729.

Sand to fill the bags can be located at the Highway Shops, but you will need to bring your own shovel. Highway shops can be located at:

  • Chippewa Falls – 801 E Grand Ave, Chippewa Falls, WI 54729 (located behind the building near the sand shed)
  • Cornell – 20250 County Hwy K, Cornell, WI 54732 (near the sand shed)
  • Boyd – 510 Co Rd X (AKA South Clark St), Boyd WI 54726 (near the sand shed)
  • Bloomer – 8837 200th Ave, Bloomer, WI 54724 (near the sand shed)

Any damage to property as a result of the storm can be reported through 211.

Emergencies and public safety needs should be reported as normal.

The Chippewa County Sheriff’s Office will continue to monitor the storm and notify the public with changing information as available through social media, our mobile app, and the local media.
