Gavel Drops: Man Sentenced in Cold Case Murder News | March 28, 2025 | 0 | by Morgan McCarthy The gavel drops and after decades of waiting, justice is served. Jon Miller was in a local court Thursday afternoon. He will be doing life in prison for the stabbing death of Mary Schlais that happened in 1974. Miller changed his plea to “no contest” and didn’t offer comments to the family or otherwise in court. Schlais was found dead with stab wounds in the woods after having hitch-hiked from Minneapolis on her way to Chicago and DNA testing recently lead investigators to Miller.
