Today, U.S. Senator Tammy Baldwin (D-WI) announced that 24 school districts across Wisconsin will receive funding to replace existing school buses with low-emission buses. The investment, from the 2023 Clean School Bus Program, is funded through the Baldwin-back Bipartisan Infrastructure Law.
“Clean school buses are a win-win for the Wisconsin school districts and taxpayers who are saving money and for Wisconsin kids and communities who are breathing cleaner air,” said Senator Tammy Baldwin. “Whether it’s new roads and bridges, clean water and broadband for every home and business, or upgrading the transportation millions of Americans rely on to get to work and school, our Bipartisan Infrastructure Law is making life safer, healthier, and more affordable for families in every corner of the Badger State.”
The Environmental Protection Agency’s Clean School Bus Program was created by the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, which provides a total of $5 billion in funding to transform the nation’s fleet of school buses. The Clean School Bus Program funds electric buses, which produce zero tailpipe emissions, as well as propane and compressed natural gas buses, which produce lower tailpipe emissions compared to their older diesel predecessors.
The following school districts received funding through the Baldwin-backed Bipartisan Infrastructure Law:
Southeastern Wisconsin
- Milwaukee School District: $7,465,000 to purchase 25 clean school buses.
- Mayville School District: $800,000 to purchase four clean school buses.
- Elmbrook School District: $200,000 to purchase one clean school bus.
Western Wisconsin
- Boyceville Community School District: $50,000 to purchase two clean school buses.
- Lancaster Community School District: $400,000 to purchase two clean school buses.
- Platteville School District: $25,000 to purchase one clean school bus.
- River Ridge School District: $25,000 to purchase one clean school bus.
- Alma School District: $345,000 to purchase one clean school bus.
- Osseo-Fairchild School District: $200,000 to purchase one clean school bus.
- Ithaca School District: $25,000 to purchase one clean school bus.
- Augusta School District: $530,000 to purchase two clean school buses.
- North Crawford School District: $690,000 to purchase two clean school buses.
South Central Wisconsin
- Middleton-Cross Plains Area School District: $200,000 to purchase one clean school bus.
- Beloit School District: $8,705,000 to purchase 25 clean school buses.
- Mount Horeb Area School District: $200,000 to purchase one clean school bus.
- Oregon School District: $200,000 to purchase one clean school bus.
- Isthmus Montessori Academy Public Agency: $345,000 to purchase one clean school bus.
Northeast Wisconsin
- Green Lake School District: $200,000 to purchase one clean school bus.
- Oneida Nation School: $245,000 to purchase seven clean school buses.
- Marion School District: $420,000 to purchase two clean school buses.
- Sheboygan Area School District: $100,000 to purchase four clean school buses.
- Menominee Indian School District: $690,000 to purchase two clean school buses.
Northern Wisconsin
- Auburndale School District: $200,000 to purchase one clean school bus.
- Pittsville School District: $690,000 to purchase two clean school buses.
