Investigators say students are to blame for last summer’s collapse of the swimming pier at Lake Mendota.
UW-Madison on Friday released its report into the collapse at the Howard Temin Lakeshore Path. Investigators say there were 80 students on the swimming pier at the time, far more than the pier was designed for. The report says all that weight caused a ‘latitudinal strain,’ that led to the collapse. About 20 students were hurt when the metal pier went into the lake, but none of them were serious injuries.
