With the taste of Winter returning this week we (finally) see some snow on the ground and feel those colder temps. We remember how to Winter in Wisconsin, don’t we? In 1801, the House of Representatives broke an electoral tie between Thomas Jefferson and Aaron Burr, electing Jefferson as president. Burr became the vice president.
In 1897, the National Congress of Mothers was organized in Washington, D.C. The group later changed its name to the National Parent Teachers Organization or PTA.
In 1909, Apache leader Geronimo died while imprisoned at Fort Sill, Oklahoma. He was the last Apache chief to surrender to the American government.
In 1960, civil rights leader Martin Luther King, Jr., was arrested in the Alabama bus boycott.
In 1968, the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall-of-Fame opened in Springfield, Massachusetts.
In 1982, jazz pianist Thelonious Monk died at the age of 64.
In 1982, actor Lee Strasberg died at the age of 80.
