UPDATE: THE FOLLOWING IS THE OFFICIAL UPDATE ON THIS INCIDENT FROM ECFD
On Monday, January 8, 2024, at approximately 7:50 PM, the Eau Claire Fire Department responded to 1828 S. Hastings Way, Regency Inn and Suites, for a motor vehicle accident, vehicle vs a building, with possible injury. 1 Engine, 1 Ladder Truck, 1 Heavy Rescue Squad, 1 Ambulance, and 2 Chiefs responded. Upon arrival, crews found a pickup truck had driven through the exterior wall into the building’s hallway. Occupants of the hotel room in the vicinity were blocked from exiting their room temporarily but no injuries were reported. The driver of the vehicle was assessed at the scene by fire department paramedics and transported to a hospital.
Fire personnel were able to remove debris rom the hotel room’s doorway and assist the uninjured occupants out of their room to a safer location within the building. Structural stability of the immediate area was assessed and a City Building Inspector was requested to confirm stability. The fire department was assisted by the Eau Claire Communications Center and Eau Claire Police Department.
