It’s almost here! For many, this is the excitement before the big day and on this (cold) Christmas Eve we take a look at some statistics surrounding the holiday.
Tonight is a busy one for the big jolly man in the bright red suit. When it comes to Santa, a recent Ipsos holiday season poll of more than one-thousand adults found 21 percent of respondents said they believe in St. Nick. Meanwhile, 46-percent of those surveyed said their children are believers.
The poll also found three-quarters of adults think most Americans have forgotten the real meaning of Christmas. Meanwhile, Americans said the most annoying or overplayed Christmas song is Mariah Carey’s “All I Want for Christmas.”

Where are people more Grinch than Buddy The Elf? Financial Buzz says New York City has the least Christmas cheer and is the grinchiest city of all. After looking at data from 50 cities, New York had the lowest score at 18-point-9, but most New Yorkers don’t see it.
The data, however, says the Big Apple has the lowest rates of holiday decoration shops, Christmas tree lots, gift shops and food banks. Turns out Hartford, Connecticut is the least grinchiest city in the nation with a score of nearly 75.
Although the season is associated with merry and bright, silver and gold, that’s not how it feels for everyone. If you are feeling blue, there are some ways to try and ease the pain. Dr. Angela Drake is a clinical neuropsychologist at UC Davis Health and says the most important thing is connection.
Drake says it’s important to also manage your holiday expectations. Even if things aren’t perfect, it’s still okay and focus on what you’re grateful for in the present. Finally, check in with yourself, your stress or sadness, so that you know what you need. Remember, too, if you or someone you know is experiencing a mental health crisis dial or text 988 to connect with the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline.
From here in our 715 Newsroom, we thank you for being a part of our newsroom every day and wish you and yours all the best this holiday season.
