Chippewa County prosecutor Wade Newell described the death of Iliana “Lily” Peters as “violent,” and added the teen punched the girl “in the stomach, knocked her to the ground” and “hit her with a stick” before the assault and murder.  The teen’s identity was not said during Wednesday’s court

Police arrested a 14-year-old boy Tuesday, saying he knew Lily Peters and followed her as she left her aunt’s house Sunday night.  Prosecutors allege he punched and hit her, then strangled and sexually assaulted the fourth-grader.  Her body was found the next morning near a walking trail.

If convicted of murder, the teen faces life in prison.
