Eau Claire’s fire department is hoping to use a federal grant to hire more firefighters.
The city council last night okayed an application for a SAFER grant from the Department of Homeland Security. If Eau Claire wins the grant, the city could hire six new firefighters for the station on Golf Road. Deputy Fire Chief Allyn Bertrang says Eau Claire needs to add firefighters because the city’s south side is growing. The fire department hopes to submit its grant application by the end of the week.
