It’s the latest snapshot of just how violent Milwaukee has become.
The city’s police department says non-fatal shootings in Milwaukee are up 27 percent over the past year. MPD says 703 have been shot this year, compared to 552 from the same time last year. Acting Police Chief Jeffery Norman is blaming guns for the jump. He says shooters are getting guns that can fire more rounds. He says the evidence is in the 180 percent spike in the number of shots detected or shell casings found at crime scenes. Norman says it’s an ‘all hands-on deck’ situation.
