The latest weekend of shootings in Milwaukee has the city’s mayor looking to the state for help.
Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett yesterday said his heart goes out to the family of an 11-year-old girl who was shot during a drive-by Saturday night. She died, and her five-year-old sister was wounded. Barrett blamed state lawmakers for not sending enough money to Milwaukee to staff its police department and blamed a lack of background checks for illegal gun sales in the city. Milwaukee has lost nearly 180 police positions since 2019 while Barrett has been mayor.
