UW Madison’s chancellor is apologizing for starting school on Rosh Hashanah this year.
Chancellor Rebecca Blank sent an email to students and faculty members yesterday, apologizing for starting the school year on the holiest of holidays for Jewish people. Blank said it was an ‘overlap which we should have identified’ earlier. Blank is not changing the start of the school year, however, students are still expected to report to class on September 7th and September 8th. Many Jewish students and Jewish faculty members say they will skip those first few days.
