The Strong National Museum of Play is considering twelve toys, both new and old, for a spot in its National Toy Hall of Fame.
Toys such as Bingo, My Little Pony, and Tamagotchi are all finalists. Among the finalists is Shindana Toys’ 1986 Baby Nancy. The New York museum says the success of the release of the Black baby doll with textured hair exposed a “long-standing demand for ethnically correct Black dolls” which “the mainstream market had failed to deliver previously.” Vice president for collections Christopher Bensch says regardless if the toys are new or old all twelve “greatly influenced the world of play.” The finalists will be announced on November 5th.
