The first human case of the Eastern Equine Encephalitis virus in three years is confirmed in Eau Claire County.
The Wisconsin Department of Health and Eau Claire County health officials confirmed today the virus was found in a female under the age of 18 who lives in Eau Claire County. The virus generally affects horses and this is the first case in a human in Wisconsin since 2017.
EEE can be spread to humans through a bite of an infected mosquito but is not spread person-to-person or directly between animals and humans.
