The Chippewa County Sheriff’s office is commenting on the recent death of George Floyd.
Floyd was arrested and pinned to the ground with the arresting officer’s knee on his neck this week, causing him to pass out and soon after, die. In the three days since, riot-like protests have destroyed buildings and businesses in Minneapolis.
Chippewa County Sheriff James Kowlaczyk said what happened to Floyd was not typical protocol that law enforcement should follow and that officers train repeatedly to understand the correct use of force.
On the state scene, Wisconsin Attorney General Josh Kaul released the following statement regarding the death of George Floyd in Minneapolis.
“What America witnessed happening to George Floyd in Minneapolis was not, in any true sense of the phrase, law enforcement. It was torture and murder, under color of law,” said AG Kaul. “Justice demands that those involved in this depraved crime be prosecuted to the full extent of the law.”
