We are starting another week of what is becoming our “new normal” and as we navigate the latest of the world pandemic, there is a lot (A LOT!) of information to digest, we will break it down from the larger (World) scope and work our way here to the Chippewa Valley and our own back yard and day to day lives. Trying to outline the basics and keep the information accurate, bite size, and easy to follow.
First of all, COVID19 is the name given to COronaVIrus Disease 2019, for the year that it was first detected. Now that we have that established we will look at the latest cliff notes.
WORLD: Worldwide, more than one-point-eight million people are infected and more than 114-thousand have died. The U.S. is overtaking Italy as the nation with the highest death toll from the COVID-19 coronavirus.
A new report from the CDC finds the coronavirus can travel at least 13 feet through the air, more than twice the current social distancing recommendations. The report also found that the virus can be spread on shoes, based on examining the footwear of ICU staff working in Wuhan, China. High levels of the virus were also noted on surfaces like computers, trashcans and bed rails.
NATIONAL: Far more than half-a-million Americans have now been infected by the coronavirus and more than 20-thousand have died. Johns Hopkins University reported Sunday night the U.S. has more than 555-thousand confirmed cases and more than 22-thousand deaths.
The coronavirus stimulus checks are going out. The IRS announced on Twitter that the first wave has been deposited. The post said officials know many people are anxious to get their payments and will continue issuing them as fast as they can.”
STATE: The latest update to Wisconsin’s coronavirus count has the state over three-thousand cases. The state’s Department of Health Services yesterday said that three-thousand-365 people have been confirmed to have the virus. DHS says 144 people have died from it. Nearly 36-thousand others have been tested for the virus and found to not be sick.
LOCAL: Locally, there are now 50 people infected with the coronavirus in Eau Claire, Chippewa and Dunn counties. The latest coronavirus count shows 21 cases in Eau Claire County, 20 cases in Chippewa County, and nine cases in Dunn County.
