That is the message for the week ahead as we launch into a new week, we will have new changes ahead as we all navigate life in the climate of a world health pandemic. As we follow the latest of the world pandemic, there is a lot (A LOT!) of information to digest, we will break it down from the larger (World) scope and work our way here to the Chippewa Valley and our own back yard and day to day lives. Trying to outline the basics and keep the information accurate, bite size, and easy to follow.
First of all, COVID19 is the name given to COronaVIrus Disease 2019, for the year that it was first detected. Now that we have that established we will look at the latest cliff notes.
WORLD: Italy is still battling the coronavirus and the country’s prime minister isn’t sure when the nation will start to reopen. On NBC’s Meet The Press, Giuseppe Conte said his country is following the suggestions from scientists. He admitted that the people of Italy have been asked to sacrifice a lot during this time and also said the country’s response hasn’t been perfect. Conte urged Italians to stay home.
NATIONAL: There are now more than 330-thousand confirmed coronavirus cases in the United States. The death toll has climbed to at least 96-hundred. While the U.S. is the epicenter of the pandemic, with New York dealing with the brunt of the cases, there are more than one-point-two million infections recorded worldwide. Government officials say it’s going to get worse before it gets better, with President Trump warning Sunday that there’s going to be a lot of death in the coming week.
Louisiana is just days away from not having enough ventilators to treat people suffering from coronavirus. The latest numbers also showed more than 400 people have died.
STATE: Wisconsin could see 23-hundred confirmed cases of the coronavirus by the end of the day. The state’s Department of Health Services yesterday confirmed that two-thousand-267 people in the state are sick with the virus. DHS says 68 people have died from it. But over 25-thousand people have been tested for the coronavirus and confirmed to not be sick.
LOCAL: Twenty one people are sick with the coronavirus in Eau Claire County. The latest counts show cases in our area trending up and Buffalo County reported it’s first death from Covid-19. The person was in their 80’s and had underlying health conditions. Officials urge continuing to be safer at home.
