The Iditarod Sled Dog Race kicks off today in Alaska.
The ceremonial start of the annual race was held yesterday in Anchorage. Spectators took photos with the mushers and got to pet some of the 800 sled dogs participating in the race.
The actual race starts today north of Anchorage in Willow, where over 50 competitors will travel nearly one-thousand miles to the town of Nome. Organizers say mushers will face epic amounts of snow along this year’s trail.
