We now have more information on the Eau Claire Police Officer involved in a domestic incident. It was just after 4 on the morning of August 31st when members of the Eau Claire Police Department were called to a hospital for a woman who was dropped off by an unknown male with severe head trauma and was listed in critical condition. It was believed the woman was a victim of a crime.
During the course of the investigation, the Department identified 41 year old Girard R. Jones as a possible suspect. Jones was located in a Chippewa Falls house and fled in a vehicle. Gun shots were fired during the course of the police pursuit and it was Officer Mitchell Hunsley was at the intersection of Melby Street and North Hastings Way when he saw the pursuit to the east on Melby Street. While attempting to assist in the pursuit,
Jones drove his car at Officer Hunsley. TheĀ Officer took action and fired his weapon at Jones in an attempt to stop the threat. Jones proceeded east on Melby Street where his vehicle came to a stop and he was taken into custody. Nobody was injured.
Officer Hunsley is a 5 year veteran of the Eau Claire Police Department. He is assigned to the North Patrol District, a Police Training Officer, firearms instructor and a member of the Tactical Response Team.
Officer Hunsley is expected back to full duty by next week.
