Political Snapshot: Rally in the Valley, Early Poll Peeks

Eau Claire saw the candidates and the crowds yesterday.

Both Vice President Kamala Harris and her running mate as well as Republican vice presidential candidate JD Vance and made stops in the city. They held rallies at almost the exact same time.  The dueling visits once again highlight just how important Wisconsin is to both sides in the November election. On that note, when it comes to peeking at the early poll trends, the latest Marquette Law School Poll once again shows a tied race between Donald Trump and Kamala Harris. CLICK HERE FOR NOTES FROM BOTH VISITS.

The new poll which came out yesterday gives the former president a 50-49 lead among registered voters, and gives Harris a 50-49 lead among likely voters. Pollsters say 62 percent of Democrats say they are excited about voting. Back in June that number was just 40 percent. Trump continues to lead the enthusiasm gap, with more than 60 percent of Republicans who say they’re excited to vote for him.

In other races, Wisconsin’s Democratic U.S. Senator continues to hold a lead in her re-election bid.

The latest Marquette Law School Poll gives Senator Tammy Baldwin a seven-point lead against Eric Hovde. Pollsters say she’s leading 53-46 among registered voters. However, 14-percent of voters say they have not yet made-up their minds. Baldwin has led the race since the first polls came out earlier this year, and the margins haven’t changed that much. Baldwin is running for her third term in the Senate, and Hovde is making his second bid for the seat.
