Dane County is the first county in the U.S. to get a solar energy distinction from a renewable energy organization.
The county worked with Sol-Smart to get platinum distinction for its solar market growth practices. This includes a 100-percent renewable electricity offset in 2023. Platinum status requires the county to post metrics about the amount of solar resources installed locally. In the U.S., 43 other states have gotten either gold, silver, or bronze SolSmart designations.
