WI County Adopts Indigenous People’s Day

Dane County has a new, official holiday – Indigenous People’s Day is now a paid holiday.

The County Board has approved an amendment that makes Dane County one of the few places in Wisconsin that will recognize the holiday.  It will replace Columbus Day, the second Monday in October, with indigenous People’s Day, closing county offices and giving county staff a paid holiday off.    Wisconsin has eleven federally recognized tribes.
