Research Could Affect Prenatal Health Care

New technology coming out of the Universities of Wisconsin could help doctors detect developmental disorders before a baby is born.

Biomedical Engineering Professor Dr. Randolph Ashton says the tool, RosetteArrays, may allow scientists to see beginning stages of development by monitoring stem cells in early pregnancy. The UW-Madison team says it’s currently focusing on autism, ADHD, and other disorders that aren’t usually diagnosed until later in life. Dr. Ashton says he is seeking more funding to find broader uses for the research.
