Legislation Aims for Transparency

Wisconsin lawmakers have proposed legislation that would give more transparency on what’s happening in state prisons and county jails.

The bill would require the Department of Corrections to report the total number of inmates in a prison or jail. Reports would include all visitation or communication restrictions, and the number of people in solitary confinement. Democratic Senator Kelda Roys of Madison says the bill aims to streamline the public information process in the correctional system.
