Bucking the Trend, Deer Numbers Down

Bucking the Trend, Deer Numbers Down

It was a down year for deer hunters in Wisconsin.

The state’s Department of Natural Resources yesterday reported a nearly 18-percent drop in the deer harvest for this year’s gun season. The DNR says hunters bagged just under 174-thousand deer during the nine-day gun season. The DNR says hunters in all four zones in the state took fewer deer, but hunters in the northern forest had the worst luck.

Their numbers were down 30-percent compared to last year.  Wisconsin is not alone in its deer harvest drop. Officials in Minnesota say their deer harvest is down over 20-percent, and Michigan’s numbers look to be similarly small.
