Dollar General Pays Up After Price Investigation

Dollar General will pay 850-thousand dollars following an investigation at stores across Wisconsin.

The investigation by the Department of Agriculture, Trade, and Consumer Protection looked at allegations that items were ringing up at higher prices at the register than the prices marked on the shelves. Investigators went to more than 200 stores in Wisconsin in early 2023, checked prices on seven-thousand items, and found that 662 were more expensive at checkout.

On average, the agency says prices were 17-percent higher than listed. Dollar General has also agreed to price accuracy checks every 90 days, but has not admitted to breaking any laws.
