Mayo Clinic Health System and the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire will host a free community education event “Changing the conversation around alcohol in the US: Acknowledging the elephant in the room” on Sept. 19 at 7 p.m. in UW-Eau Claire’s Schofield Auditorium in Schofield Hall, 105 Garfield Ave. in Eau Claire.
The keynote speaker will be George Koob, Ph.D., director of the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and a senior investigator at the Intramural Research Program of the National Institute on Drug Abuse, where he directs the Neurobiology of Addiction Laboratory in the Integrative Neurosciences Research Branch. Dr. Koob will provide a presentation to address alcohol consumption, including raising awareness about the scope of the problem and shedding light on the social and health consequences of alcohol misuse.
