Xcel Shines Light On New Solar Project News | August 10, 2023 | 0 | by Morgan McCarthy Xcel Energy is eyeing northwestern Wisconsin’s largest green energy project ever. The company yesterday opened the door to a 650-megawatt solar-specific project that combines solar with energy storage. Xcel says the idea is to use the green energy plant to replace the old, coal-fired King plant in Minnesota. That plant is supposed to come off-line in 2028. Xcel says it wants to cut its carbon emissions by 85 percent by 2030, and eventually become carbon-free.
