A death investigation is underway in the Township of Washington.
On Thursday, July 13 th , 2023, at approximately 7:54pm, the Eau Claire County Sheriff’s Office responded to a residence in the 3400 block of McElroy Court, in the Township of Washington, for an emergency medical call involving two individuals.
Upon arrival Sheriff’s Deputies and EMS personnel located a 77 year old female, who was deceased. Also present was an 81 year old male, who was in need of emergency medical attention. The male subject was transported to a local hospital.
The circumstances surrounding the female’s death are suspicious and this incident is being actively nvestigated. The names of the involved parties are not being released at this time.

UPDATE:
The identity of the deceased is Diane Berthold (DOB 09/30/45). This investigation is still very active and no
further information will be released at this time. More details will be released as the investigation
progresses. This is an isolated incident with no community threat associated with the death. The Sheriff’s
Office sends our deepest condolences to the Berthold family.
