Man Involved in Statue Destruction Sentenced

A Madison man will spend six months in jail after being found guilty of using a car to pull down a statue at the Wisconsin State Capitol.

The statue of Hans Christian Heg was pulled down during protests in June of 2020.  This week Kelsey Nelson was sentenced to six months behind bars for that crime and for looting a jewelry store on State Street the month before.  He pleaded guilty to criminal damage to property and burglary.
